Poem

Cast a long shadow, like a dying light

stretched from your elbow to the nape of your neck

in the grip of your arms

A million songs to remember your face by

during a midday escape

to a perfect afternoon.

Each belief, tended through time and experience

unpeeled by fingernails on longing hands

that envelop and undress

The unsteadiness of contained excitement

tumbled off a wall

and dragged to the centre of a room.

With teeth sinking into hungry flesh

a solicited intrusion, unpardoned and clandestine –

The mind convulses stupors

and the sated body swoons.
